A Rare Gem
Once, an
ambassador from a neighbouring kingdom visited Akbar. Akbar said, “Be my
guest.” The ambassador had brought many gifts with him and he gave them to
Akbar and his courtiers. Then he said to Akbar, “There are many alchemists in
our country. They can turn any metal into gold. Our country also has many rare gemstones.
What is the speciality of your kingdom?” Akbar said, “My kingdom has the rarest
of rare gems, which can solve any problem.” The ambassador said, “Can I see the
gem?” Akbar said, “Of course!” He pointed to Birbal and said, “That’s our most
precious gem. He can pick out good people among many bad ones. He has solved
many people’s problems and saved many innocent lives. He is kind and
intelligent, yet humble.” The ambassador said, “You are lucky to have him.”
Akbar was happy with the ambassador and gave him many gifts.
